On Wednesday, April 26, Los Angeles folk-rockers  Dawes took the stage at The Fillmore in San Francisco. For their evening at the iconic venue, the band went all out, with frontman Taylor Goldsmith shining during a handful of acoustic solos, a sit-in from Jason Crosby stepping in on violin to help polish off the show’s opening frame and a tease of the Grateful Dead’s “Fire On The Mountain.”

Dawes started things off with some fresh material, opening with “Everything Is Permanent” off their 2022 LP, Misadventures Of Doomscroller. Next, they kicked it back to 2011 for “If I Wanted Someone” before serving up “Living In The Future,” “Waiting For Your Call,” and “None Of My Business.” Then, the band tackled “Most People,” which bled directly into the Grateful Dead’s “Fire On The Mountain.” 

After the Grateful Dead arrangement, Dawes returned to their own songbook for “What It Takes” – their latest single. They followed up with 2016’s “Less Than Five Minutes Away,” which meandered into a cover of Lee Pardini’s “Main Title.” Finally, Crosby joined the rockers onstage for Dawes’ recent release, “Comes In Waves” and fan-favorite “When My Time Comes.” 

After a short break, Goldsmith took center stage for a pair of acoustic solos, offering his stripped-down take on “House Parties” and “Crack The Case.” Then, the rest of the band chimed back in for “Ghost In The Machine” and “When The Tequila Runs Out” before incorporating a chorus and verse from U2’s “With Or Without You” into Dawes’ 2020 release “Don’t Fix Me.” 

They drove the show’s second frame home with “Things Happen,” “Time Spent In Los Angeles,” “From a Window Seat,” “Someone Else’s Café/Doomscroller Tries to Relax,” and “All Your Favorites Bands.” Finally, Goldsmith returned to the stage on his own for a single-track encore, dishing out an acoustic rendition of a standout off 2011’s Nothing Is Wrong “A Little Bit Of Everything.” 

With their evening at The Fillmore in the books, Dawes will head back on the road, continuing their tour in support of Misadventure Of Doomscroller. Upcoming gigs include a two-night stand at Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, Calif., on April 28 and 29. Then, the rockers will stop by their home base in Los Angeles for a May 5 show at The Theatre at Ace Hotel. View Dawes’ full tour schedule and ticketing information on their website.
