Last night, Thursday, April 20, Dawes brought their current tour, dubbed Misadventures of Doomscoller, which beckons to their 2022 LP, to The Commonwealth Room in Salt Lake City. During the two-set performance, the billed band brought out The Killers co-founder Brandon Flowers for a two-part sit-in during the first and second sets. During the latter half of the collaboration, the ensemble and their accompaniment delivered Johnny Cash’s “I Came to Believe,” a song with significance to its performers.

Yesterday’s show got underway with renditions of  “Everything Is Permanent,” “Roll With the Punches,” and the Password cut, “Living in the Future.” Next, the group of musicians meandered through “Somewhere Along the Way” and “Just My Luck” prior to their take on “If I Wanted Someone.” “Between Zero and the One” and “Someone Else’s Cafe/Doomscroller Tries to Relax” arrived before the initial appearance by Flowers, who turned up and assisted Dawes with their original “ A Little Bit of Everything,” which ushed in the halfway point of the night. 

After the set break, Dawes returned to the stage for a take on “King of the Never Wills,” according to Setlist.FM. A high point of the night came next, as Flowers took the stage and ran through an acoustic take on Johnny Cash’s “I Came to Believe” alongside his hosts. This was not the first time this group of players had performed the Man in Black number. Nearly a decade ago, these specific players teamed up for a take on the cut, which doubled as a celebration for Cash’s Out Among The Stars LP, which saw members of the music industry reinterpret numbers from the lost album.
