Last night, March 12, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros concluded their tour at the famed Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. Following up on their Friday night gig at the Mother Church, the ensemble, once again, brought special guest Mickey Raphael up to the front of the room to assist with choice selects, including “Big Boss Man,” “Samson and Delilah” and more.

The Sunday night feature commenced with “Cassidy,” a tune off Weir’s debut solo release, Ace. Following up on the night’s first number, the billed players welcomed their guest and Willie Nelson collaborator, Raphael, to the stage to add harmonica to the Jimmy Reed original, “Big Boss Man.” Continuing their frame, they added “She Says” before entering the Grateful Dead archive on “Althea.”

The band picked up Jerry Garcia’s “Mission in the Rain” prior to returning to the Ace catalog on “Greatest Story Ever Told.” For the set’s final songs, Weir led his band back to the Dead’s material, adding in a pairing of “Weather Report Suite” and “Let It Grow” to cap the show’s first half.

After a set break, Weir and company returned to the stage with their guest in tow. As a fitting Sunday song choice, the group landed on the traditional “Samson and Delilah,” featuring Raphael’s sparkling harmonica. “She Knows What I’m Thinking” landed before “Black-Throated Wind” and “Shakedown Street,” then the band picked up The Beatles’ “Come Together,” which included an “Eleanor Rigby” interlude.

The Abbey Road classic merged with “The Wheel,” which inevitably rolled into “The Other One.” Next, the group of players added an emotionally fueled “Days Between” before epically closing the second set, showcasing every peak and valley of the “Terrapin Station Suite.” For the night’s encore, the band welcomed Raphael for a closing rendition of “Brokedown Palace.”

Following last night’s gig in Music City, Weir will take some time off the road before returning on April 3 for the start of his five-night sold-out stand at The Guild Theatre in Menlo Park, Calif., where he’ll jam alongside the Wolf Bros Trio, which also includes bassist Don Was and drummer Jay Lane.
