Today, March 3, Samantha Fish and Jesse Dayton have announced the May 19 release of their impending collaborative album, Death Wish Blues, via Rounder Records. As a preview of the material on the forthcoming drop, the pair have delivered their gritty single, “Deathwish,” alongside an adjoining music video.
Death Wish Blues evolved from the duo’s 2022 EP, Stardust Sessions, which featured explorative covers of “Brand New Cadillac,” “I’ll Be Here in the Morning” and “Feelin’ Good.” Fish and Dayton’s kinship persists on their latest project, which was tracked at Applehead Recording & Production in Woodstock, N.Y., and produced by Jon Spencer.
In a press release distributed by the artists, Dayton offered, “For this album, we wanted to keep everything blues-based, with a lot of inspiration from people like Albert King and Magic Sam on the lead-guitar parts, but we also wanted to have fun with that and take it somewhere new and different and way outside our wheelhouse.”
The forthcoming record pulls in a compilation of numbers featuring Fish and Dayton performing alongside Kendall Wind (bass), Mickey Finn (keyboards) and Aaron Johnston (drums). The ensemble worked for 10 intense days in the studio to render new numbers like “Down in the Mud,” “Riders,” “Trauma,” and today’s teaser, “Deathwish.” Watch below.
