Today, Relix launched their debut live recording sessions, touted as The Relix Sessions, on all major streaming platforms. The first installment showcases the impeccable musical stylings of Soule Monde, an avant-garde funk duo comprised of Russ Lawton and Ray Paczkowski.

The Relix Session with Soul Monde took place on June 2, 2021, live at Relix Studio in New York City and is made up of 14 distinct jams. Lawton and Paczkowski waste no time getting into the groove on the live album’s opening track, “Mimi Digs It,” immediately showcasing their skills and desire to connect.

The cymbals ring, the kit drum marches and the Hammond organ cry as they capture the magic of live music in a time when there was very little. The session clocks in at an hour and 27 minutes and serves as a very specific and special time capsule–captured at a time that shouldn’t be forgotten–when the value of live music was realized very deeply, especially by musicians; it can be heard throughout this performance. Other standout tracks include a rousing “Strut,” an oscillating “Jody Grind,” “Bernard,” and the final jam “Tango,” which demands dancing.

Other notable performances in The Relix Sessions that have yet to be shared on digital platforms include Billy Strings on Dec. 12, 2019; Keller Williams on May 30, 2019; Mikaela Davis on April 14, 2021; and more. Learn more about the vinyl options of The Relix Sessions here.
