Last night, Phish played the fourth and final evening of their destination event at the Moon Palace Riviera Maya. After three performances with sunshine upon their faces and wind at their backs, Phish cascaded one more day of music over soft Mexican sand and the tender ears of their fans.
Phish got things started with a heavenly “Sigma Oasis” before moving the tone star-bound with “David Bowie.” Next, they performed “Wolfman’s Brother” completely, during which they locked in their improvisational inclinations completely. The band continued the frame with two jammed-out pairings: “Tube” into “Prince Caspian” and “Mull” into “Ghost.” They closed the first set with “The Squirming Coil.”
The second set started with fan favorite “Possum,” which flowed into “Julius.” Next came “You Enjoy Myself,” which saw teased the theme from Speed Racer before they went into a non-stop run that would continue until the end of the frame, starting with “Everything’s Right.” From there, they melded the sonic flow into “Simple,” then their ode to friendship, “Backwards Down the Number Line,” and finally, the beloved “Suzy Greenberg.”
For the final encore of their stay at the Moon Palace, Phish played “McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters,” a song they haven’t played since 2021. With unforgettable memories firmly made and emotions high, Phish then played the ever-sweet “Waste” before one last iconic tune, “Slave to the Traffic Light,” bringing their time in Mexico to an end.
