Yesterday, Feb. 19, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds took their final stand on the Sunrise Beach Stage at Moon Palace Hotel in Cancún, Mexico, as a part of their self-titled destination concert event. The Sunday night gig included solos by both players and a sit-in by Molly Tuttle, who brought out her guitar and assisted her hosts during a series of covers and originals.

The Sunday stand began with “Break Free,” played solo by Matthews. The initial number of the night also marked the first time Matthews had opened with the DMB tune. Matthews’ solo continued with “Sweet” before Reynolds arrived on stage. Together, the pair of musicians cut into a series of songs, including “Typical Situation,” “So Much to Say,” “Cry Freedom,” “You & Me,” “Granny,” “Sister” and “Jimi Thing.” 

Next, Reynolds’ solo occured, and he performed “Tangled Web We Weave.” Then, his collaborator returned, and the two players ran through DMB numbers such as “Oh,” “Minarets,” “Little Thing,” “Do You Remember,” “Christmas Song” and “Tripping Billies” prior to another Reynolds solo. This time, the artist worked through his original “Steam,” which merged with a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir.” 

After Reynolds capped the number, Matthews returned to the stage, and the duo welcomed their guest, Tuttle, who assisted with the original “Grace Is Gone,” followed by covers of Bob Dylan’s “Oh, Sister” and John Prine’s “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness.” The sit-in continued with a first as the trio of musicians delivered the Tuttle-penned “Yosemite.”

Then, for the final song of the main frame, the group returned to the Dave Matthews Band archive on fan favorite, “Ants Marching.” After a brief break that followed the end of the stacked 24-song set, Matthews returned and began the night’s encore with a solo take on “Some Devil” before Reynolds arrived for the final song of the show, “Two Step.” 

After last night’s stand in Mexico, the duo will take some time off before reconvening for an appearance at Innings Festival in Tampa, Fla., on March 19, which arrives before their full-fledged summer tour.
