On Monday night, Panic en la Playa continued at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya, with the host band, Widespread Panic, performing “Proving Ground” for the first time as an opener since July 1, 2008. The number kicked off the band’s third night on stage and merged into “Love Tractor” before the ensemble reinforced their placement by returning to the song to cap their jam. 

The first frame proceeded with a run-through of “Pickin’ Up the Pieces” before the ensemble delivered “Old Neighborhood.” “Impossible” emerged next and arrived prior to “Second Skin.” The group pulled from their 1997 Bombs & Butterflies material next, choosing their track “Rebirtha.” For the final number of their set, Widespread Panic picked “Blackout Blues” to conclude part one of their concert. 

For the group’s second frame, they kicked things off with a pairing of “Diner” with “Sleeping Man.” Of note, “Diner” featured elements of “Highway to Heaven.” Next up, the Athens, Ga. band landed on “Sundown Betty” before moving into “Party At Your Mama’s House,” which merged effortlessly into “Ribs and Whiskey.” Next, Widespread Panic jammed through “Mercy” and spun it into “Big Wooly Mammoth,” followed by “Mini Drums” and “Protein Drink/ Sewing Machine” to end the later set. 

For their encore, they started with “Dream Song” before ending their third night South of the Border with a cover of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ favorite, “Running Down A Dream.” The fourth and final night of Panic en la Playa will occur tonight.
