On Jan. 9, Brandi Carlile commenced her destination concert event, Girls Just Wanna Weekend, at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riveria Maya, Mexico. As a part of the previously announced lineup, Wynonna Judd took the stage last night for her South of the Border performance. During the stacked session, the country songstress brought a special guest, Bobby Weir, for an unannounced sit-in.

Judd kicked off her set with a series of originals that included “I Know Where I’m Going,” “Rock Bottom” and “You Make My Heart Beat.” Then, after a run-through of “She’s His Only Need,” Judd welcomed Weir, who assisted on The Judds’ 1984 cut, “Why Not Me.” In continuation of the sit-in, the duo performed “Cry Myself to Sleep” and “The Other Side” before capping their collaborative on-stage delivery with “I Had a Dream,” which was paired with “What It Takes.”

In the spring, Weir welcomed Judd during his Wolf Bros date at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. During the March 9 gig, Judd and her partner, Cactus Moser, assisted on The Judd tune, “Why Not Me”–which was also performed last night in Mexico–and the Grateful Dead classic, “Ramble on Rose.”

Later this week, Weir will join his Dead & Company bandmates–Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Oteil Burbridge, John Mayer and Jeff Chimenti– for their sold-out destination concert event, Playing in the Sand, which begins on Saturday, Jan. 14.
