On Saturday, Jan. 7, an impressive lineup of musicians came together for Hello From the Hills, a collaborative benefit concert, which raised funds for the Prine family charity The Hello in There Foundation and Tyler Childers’ Hope in the Hills. The event occurred at City Winery in Nashville, Tenn.

The one-night affair in Music City began with Oh Boy Records’ Jody Whelan, who welcomed the crowd before the night’s host, singer/songwriter Kathy Mattea, carried out her duties for the night. As a part of the night’s opening remarks, Whelan recognized Prine’s influence on the evening’s players, who later deliver classics like “Illegal Smile,” “Sam Stone” and “Angel From Montgomery.”

Notably, Jason Isbell, alongside his wife, Amanda Shires, ran through “Tour of Duty,” a tune that initially appeared on Isbell’s 2011 LP, Here We Rest, before the duo dipped into another number, “Cover Me Up.” Later, Sierra Ferrell performed two unreleased songs before Amythyst Kiah took the stage. 

During Kiah’s set, she delivered “Firewater,” followed by the Appalachia old-timey number “Darlin’ Corey.” The night continued with another noteworthy performance, this time by Tommy Prine, who dipped into “This Far South” and his debut single, “Ships in the Harbor.” 

For the final set of the night, Childers took the stage and worked in originals like “Creeker,” “Matthew,” and fan favorite “Lady May.” The musician also offered a take on “All Your’n,”  initially released on 2019’s Country Squire, to cap off the event.
