Today, Phish shared a pro-shot 4K HDR video of the culmination of their New Year’s Eve run at New York’s Madison Square Garden, aptly titled “12/31/2022 – New Year’s Eve 2022: 40 Years of Phish” on YouTube. The video captures every moment of the absurd, jam-packed carnival, tracking in at just under 30 minutes.

The video showcases 40 years of call-back gags; that many who saw the event live struggled to unpack in real-time. The performance, incepted by Phish’s Trey Anastasio and director/choreographer Lisa Shriver, features many old schticks from the band’s history, including the Garden Party Golfers, the Wombat, the Famous Mockingbird, Mr. Tom Hanks, the Sci-Fi Soldiers and more. It also, of course, showcases the incredible dancers, aerialists and singers, the marching band, not to mention all the production value and effects featured during the unforgettable segment.

Over the course of the “40 Years of Phish” gag the Vermont-bred jamband received a singing tellgram, were gifted a time machine before jamming into “Ghost.” They then played their first cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” since New Year’s Eve 1996. Phish then moved back into “Ghost” which led into their first “Jungle Boogie” since 2003. Their Tom Hank’s gag version of “Wilson” came next before the set continued with “Auld Lang Syne” > “Carini” as dancers dressed in skinsuits and boots appeared from a cake and danced in a line for the “Theme from New York, New York.”  The ensemble then rocked into “Tweezer” > “Prince Caspian” > “Crosseyed and Painless” > “Piper.” They rounded the gag out with a beautiful “A Life Beyond The Dream” and closed with “First Tube.” At any given moment there were tens of people upon stage – costumes, sparklers and music galore.
