In continuation of their New Year’s Eve stand at Denver’s Mission Ballroom, the String Cheese Incident returned to the fabled Mile High City stage last night. During the two-set performance, the ensemble delivered a series of originals and covers alongside their guest, Judith Hill, who appeared during the first four numbers of the night’s second frame, and again when the evening’s encore arrived. 

The Friday night gig got underway with the band’s original “Lonesome Fiddle Blues” off the 1997 LP, A String Cheese Incident. To follow up on the opening number, they ran through “Lend Me A Hand” and “Yo Se.” Next, the ensemble–Michael Kang, Michael Travis, Bill Nershi, Kyle Hollingsworth, Keith Moseley and Jason Hann-delivered the title track off their fifth studio album, One Step Closer. The previously mentioned tune segued into “BollyMunster,” before “The Light Fantastic.” For the last song of their initial frame, the jammers landed on “Shine.” 

After the opening set, the group reemerged with their guest, Hill, for part two of their Dec. 30 gig. The singer/songwriter assisted the main act with a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish” and stuck around for a take on Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way.”  Next was a favored run through of “Cry, Cry, Cry” followed by “Let’s Go Outside,” after which Hill left the stage. With just the night’s leading players left, the String Cheese Incident worked through “Vertigo” and “Bumpin’ Reel” before capping the frame with a pairing of “Just One Story” and the locationally fitting “Colorado Bluebird Sky.”

They delivered a cover of AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long” for the night’s encore. The evening’s final song saw Hill return to the stage. After the Dec. 30 concert, the String Cheese Incident will emerge for their final stand tonight, which will also function as the last show of their New Year’s Eve run.
