Last night, American rock band Umphrey’s McGee popped off their two-night New Year’s Eve run set for the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta. The performance served as a testitmate to the bands 25 years together; flush with masterful playing from all the members and horns later in the set.

They kicked the show off with the heavy and fast grain of “Cut the Cable” which ran for nearly eight minutes before they moved into a pairing of “1348” > “Out of Focus.” Umphrey’s McGee then, ripped through “Intentions Clear” into “JaJunk,” the two songs flowed together clocking in at nearly 40 minutes.

For the second set, the band wasted no time blasting into “Preamble” which melded into “Mantis.” From there they continued with “Small Strides,” before a coupling of “The Linear” and “Puppet String.” Umphrey’s McGee captured the full extent of their shared musical energy and released all the carbonated energy of a year well spent with “Wappy Sprayberry” > “Women Wine and Song” > “Den” without stop they returned to “Mantis,” to close the frame.

After raucous applause Umphrey’s McGee returned to encore with two more tracks: “Slacker” which clocked in at over 10 minutes and then “1348” for two minutes additional minutes of pristine sound before they closed the show.

Umphrey’s McGee will return to the Coco-Cola Roxy tonight to close out 2022. For those who can’t make it in person livestream the event here.
