Over the weekend, Leftover Salmon took the stage at the Boulder Theatre in Boulder, Colo., where they welcomed an onslaught of talent during their two-night run, which kicked off on Friday, Nov. 25, and concluded the following evening, Saturday, Nov. 26. During the veteran jamband’s stand, they brought out a variety of guests including Sam Bush, Lindsay Lou, Andy Frasco, Billy Failing, Kyle Tuttle, Willa Emmitt, Silas Herman and more.

Friday began with a special moment as Leftover Salmon was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. Bush introduced the group’s manager, Chuck Morris, who presented the band with the highly-regarded honor. To follow the ceremony, the band began their initial set on the Boulder Theatre stage, along with Bush, who sat in with Leftover Salmon throughout their two-set performance.

Nov. 25 got underway with a series of numbers before the night’s first guest, Lou, arrived and added vocals to the remainder of Lucinda Williams’ original “Lines Around Your Eyes.” Lou stuck around for the following song, a take on “Up Above My Head,” featuring additional contributions from Emmitt, who added to the gospel track. For the final number of the initial frame, Leftover Salmon took on “Boogie Grass Band.”

The night’s second half presented memorable moments as Billy Strings’ banjoist, Billy Failing, and Kyle Tuttle lent their skills to a take on the fitting number “Turkey in the Straw” and a cover of Flatt & Scrugg’s “Dear Old Dixie.” The evening became a family affair, as the billed act welcomed guitarist Vince Herman’s son Silas to the stage to assist on “Fire and Brimstone.” Then, the second-generation musician traded his guitar for a mandolin during the band’s take on Bob Dylan’s “Simple Twist of Fate.”

Saturday was a continuation of Friday’s guest-packed soirée, with new additions to the musical lineup, including Frasco, Nick Forster and Dave Johnson. After some choice numbers, Leftover Salmon brought out their first guest on Saturday night, Forster, who contributed on guitar and added vocals to the bluegrass staple “Why You Been Gone So Long.” Lou showed up next and assisted with a cover of Little Feat’s “Sailin’ Shoes.” Then, Frasco stepped out and added to “Dancin’ Around My Grave.”

For the final frame of Leftover Salmon’s Boulder Theatre stand, Silas Herman returned and helped with “Troubled Times” before Lou turned up and added guitar and vocals to “The River Jordan” and “Take Me to the River.” Then, banjoists, including Yonder Mountain String Band’s Dave Johnson, Kitchen Dwellers’ Torin Daniels and Kyle Tuttle, joined Andy Thorn for a jammed-out take on “Clinch Mountain Backstep.”

For the final encore of Leftover Salmon’s run in Boulder, Colo., they worked through a take on John Hartford’s “Up on the Hill Where They Do the Boogie” with help from Johnson and Silas Herman. After this past weekend’s shows Leftover Salmon will take a few weeks off before returning to the road on Dec. 7, when they will participate in Strings & Sol in Puerto Morelos, Mexico.
