Yesterday in Los Angeles, alt-rock upstarts The Backseat Lovers pulled down double-duty with an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the band’s late-night TV debut and a sold-out performance that evening at The Wiltern theatre.

The Utah quartet rapidly rose to prominence with the 2019 single, “Kilby Girl,” from the band’s self-released album, When We Were Friends. The track has earned over 100 million streams on Spotify, leading to the group’s major label debut, Waiting To Spill, released this past October.

On their headlining fall tour, which wraps with two shows on Nov. 22 and 23  in their home state, the Lovers have been performing the new album in sequence and in its entirety. And last night’s Wiltern stop was no exception.

After the Kimmel taping up the street in Hollywood, which featured a performance of “Growing/Dying,” the four took over the classic mid-city theater with a nearly two-hour set showcasing the record- its atmospheric rock nearly overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response of the capacity crowd- then culminating with a series of favorites from When We Were Friends.

The Backseat Lovers return to the road in January 2023, with a two weeks of appearances in Australia, then a month-long European leg. The band resumes North American touring in April with a 22-show schedule through early June.
