After it was announced this past summer, the 2023 David Bowie World Fan Convention released its initial list of guest speakers. The event is scheduled to take place on June 17 and 18, 2023, at Terminal 5 in New York City and boasts an impressive list of Bowie’s closest collaborators, producers and academic scholars.

Among the guest speakers slated to appear is Tony Visconti, the famed producer who worked with Bowie throughout his career, from 1969’s Space Oddity to 2016’s Black Star. Pianist Mike Garrison and guitarist/bandleader Carlos Alomar are also on the ticket, two of Bowie’s closest musical collaborators for over the last 30 years. 

Also included is bassist George Murray, who supported Bowie on two world tours and six records, including his Berlin Trilogy. Other lecturers include guitarist Kevin Armstrong, bassist Carmine Rojas, Earthling co-producer Mark Plati, Tin Machine producer Tim Palmer and performance artist Joey Arias. Moreover, the event will be moderated by Nicholas Pegg, a Bowie scholar and author of The Complete David Bowie.

The David Bowie World Fan Convention had its inaugural meetup last June in Liverpool, drawing 1,500 fans worldwide. According to a press release, the convention “immersed attendees into (Bowie’s) hidden, hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking world.” The 2023 convention also coincides with the 40th anniversary of the release of Let’s Dance and the 50th anniversary of the release of Aladdin Sane.”

 Next year’s event promises to honor and celebrate these anniversaries, complete with costume competitions, live music performances, DJs and Bowie-themed drinks. More speakers and festivities are to be announced in the coming months.
