Last night, Gov’t Mule took their summer tour to the Rose Music Center at The Heights in Huber Heights, Ohio, for a one-night affair billed alongside Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. The Thursday performance saw the troupe’s frontman, Warren Haynes, play Duane Allman’s legendary 1957 Les Paul Goldtop during the single set performance that included a run-through of the Allman Brothers Band’s “Soulshine” and “Dreams.”

Allman’s history with the instrument began in the late-1960s when he purchased the axe. The guitar became Allman’s primary instrument on two beloved albums and was performed at countless concerts. It was also Allman’s choice instrument while tracking Derek and the Domino’s seminal LP, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.

For last night’s show, the historic instrument was brought out by The Big House Museum team, who lent the guitar to Haynes for the evening. The show began with “Traveling Tune,” followed by “Thorazine Shuffle” and a run-through of “Wake Up Dead.” Then, Gov’t Mule jammed through “Snatch It Back and Hold It” into “Hold It Back” and ultimately a return to “Snatch It Back and Hold It.”

Next, the group played “Banks Of The End” off 2001’s The Deep End, Volume 1, before working into the first Allman Brothers Band tune of the night, Haynes’s own “Soulshine” where he shredded the tune on the storied instrument.

The band moved into “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home” next, ahead of a cover of Tom Waits’ “Make It Rain,” the original “Time to Confess” followed before the ensemble landed on their second Allman Brother Band cover of the night, a take on “Dreams” before a set ending “I’m A Ram,” originally by Al Green concluded the frame.

For the night’s encore, Gov’t Mule performed a single tune, a cover of “Blues Before Sunrise” by Leroy Car. After yesterday’s performance, Gov’t Mule and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will retake the stage this evening at Elmwood Park in Roanoke, Va. Tickets for tonight’s performance remain on sale and can be purchased here
