Last night, Dead and Company rolled into their final stop of the 2022 summer tour. The band performed the first of a two-night stand at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y. The show began with the Grateful Dead super fan and king of the Bravo Network, Andy Cohen, introducing the six-piece, which included Bill Kreutzmann, who returned to the stage last night after an absence from the tour. Night one got underway with a John Mayer-led “Bertha,” which ushered in a night full of fan favorites. 

Following the band’s hot opening number, Bobby Weir and Mayer traded lyrics on “Mississippi Half Step,” a song that initially appeared on the Grateful Dead’s seminal 1973 LP, Wake of the Flood. Then, the band woke up the crowd with a rousing “Shakedown Street” ahead of the fan favorite, “Tennessee Jed.” The first set came to a close on “Birdsong,” which ran into “Don’t Ease Me In,” which was once again led by Mayer. 

Dead & Company showed the crowd a good time for their second set opener with a pairing of “Althea” and “Viola Lee Blues.” Then, the band launched into the first notes of “Lady with a Fan,” which segued into an illustrious rendition of “Terrapin Station.” For their next song, they started on “China Cat Sunflower,” which bled into the traditional “I Know You Rider.” 

“Drums” and “Space” came before Weir’s take on “The Other One,” which segued into “Standing on the Moon,” another tune the Grateful Dead frontman took the lead on. For their last song of the second set, the band landed on a fitting “Not Fadeaway,” with all the band members delivering the iconic lyrics. Then, after a brief break, Dead & Company returned to the stage for the night’s encore, an upbeat “Sugar Magnolia.”

After last night’s performance, Dead & Company will conclude their summer tour tonight, when they once more take the stage at Citi Field. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here.
