Last night, Dead & Company took their summer tour to the outskirts of Pittsburgh for a concert at The Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, Pa. The well-fueled ensemble delivered two sets of music, with references to the cosmos and full moon, which lit up the sky during the show’s latter half.

The group kicked off the night with “The Music Never Stopped,” which referenced the day of the week with the lyrics, “Well the cool breeze came on Tuesday,” and fittingly, the weather. Despite the heat, the night offered occasional wind gusts to refresh the hot dancing crowd. For the second song, the band ripped into a Mayer-led “Dire Wolf” with full moon imagery engulfing the venue’s backdrop.

“Friend of the Devil” came right before “Foolish Heart,” then the ensemble broke into a soulful “They Love Each Other.” Next, Dead & Company continued with a hot take on “West L.A. Fadeaway” before the set enders, a segued pairing of “Lost Sailor” into “Saint of Circumstance.”

After a short intermission, beautifully timed with the sunset, the band returned to stage for “Big Railroad Blues,” which segued into “Dark Star” and “El Paso.” “He’s Gone” came next and rolled into “Eyes of the World” and bridged to the Hart-led “Drums” with accompaniment by Jay Lane, who is still sitting in for Bill Kreutzmann. Read more here.

An extraordinary “Space” arrived after “Drums” with celestial notes that birthed a reprise of “Dark Star.” Next, Weir took on the “Hell in a Bucket” before a strong cover of the John Lennon and Paul McCartney penned “Dear Prudence,” which came before the set ender, “U.S. Blues.”

For their encore, they performed a sweet take on “Ripple” to cap the night. Following Tuesday’s performance, the band will travel to New York City for their final stand of 2022 summer tour at Citi Field on July 15 and 16.
