Today, Will Butler has shared two new songs and announced an eight-stop tour. The forthcoming run will mark the musicians first return to the road since 2019. The two new tracks, “A Stranger’s House” and “Nearer to Thee,” are Butler’s latest offerings since his 2020 LP, Generations. The former member of Arcade Fire has also shared his self-directed music video for “A Stranger’s House.”

Both of Butler’s new tracks showcase his signature sound and style. “A Stranger’s House” is a haunting, droning ballad filled with the artist’s crooning vocals, a repeating arpeggio piano pattern and a sample of a baby’s coo. While dissonant drums and synths fuel the song, the lush, detailed tone of both tunes shows the audience the versatility of Butler’s sonic abilities.

In addition to new music, Butler and his touring band comprised of Sara Dobbs, Miles Francis, Jenny Shore and Julie Shore, will kick off their tour on Aug. 11 at The Sinclair in Cambridge, Mass. Next, they’ll travel to Canada to play on Aug. 12 at Theatre Fairmount in Montreal and Lee’s Palace in Toronto on Aug. 13.

Then, on Aug. 14, they will begin their East Coast tour in Pittsburgh at the Club Cafe. On Aug. 19, they will play in New York’s Brooklyn Made. They’ll travel to Washington D.C. on Aug. 20 to play at DC9 before the tour closer at Philadelphia’s Johnny Brenda’s on Aug. 21.

Tickets for Will Butler’s upcoming tour will be available Friday, June 3 at 10 a.m. local time.
