Today, Mc Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger and Cameron Ralston unveiled their collaborative project Revelators Sound System. Along with the unveiling of the project, the duo shared their debut album LP Revelators will release on June 17 via 37d03d and shared the lead single from the LP “George The Revelator.”

Revelators was recorded throughout 2020 and 2021, largely at Taylor’s home in Durham, N.C. and Richmond, Virginia’s Spacebomb studio, where Ralston acts as house bassist. The album serves as a deep meditation on community that augments that purpose through root-down Avant-funk and spiritual groove to cosmic minimalism and ambiance. More than anything Revelators aims to be an emotional record– a soundtrack to a world locked in confusion.

“We only ever talked about what emotion we were going for,” Ralston recalled in a release. “We never talked about gear or fidelity.” Taylor echoed that sentiment: “This record is about grief. Grief, and whatever comes after. We were looking for a way to communicate that musically.”

The lead single “George the Revelator” was composed on May 26, 2020, the day after George Floyd was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minn. and evolved during the months that followed. The video for the song is a collaboration between Moses Sun and Bill Jones for Moses Sun Studio and was created using a series of digital drawings by Sun animated in modul8 by Jones. It was made in one take in the VJ program with no edits.
