Following the news that George Porter Jr. contracted COVID-19 a lineup of contemporary New Orleans musicians have shared, that they will sub in for the Meters bassist at Poppa Funk & The Night Tripper: A Tribute to Art Neville and Dr. John at The Fillmore in New Orleans tonight, May 7.

The group of luminaries includes Nick Daniels (bass), Devin Trusclair (drums), Tony Hall (guitar/bass/vocals), Alex Wasily (trombone), and Ashlin Parker (trumpet) of Dumpstaphunk along with Dumpstaphunk bandleader and Art Neville’s son Ian Neville alongside Art’s nephew Ivan Neville. Additionally, The Revivalists’ George Gekas (bass) will join the tribute ensemble.

Poppa Funk & The Night Tripper will also welcome Neal Francis, Nikkie Glaspie Skerik and many more. Newly formed Allman Brothers Band tribute Trouble No More comprised of Brandon “Taz” Niederauer (guitar/vocals), Daniel Donato (guitar/vocals), Dylan Niederauer (bass), Glaspie (drums), Peter Levin (keys), Roosevelt Collier (pedal steel) and Pete Lavezzoli (drums), will open the show with the help of newly added special guest Kanika Moore (vocals).
