Toni Cornell, daughter of the late Chris Cornell, went on The Late Late Show with James Corden to share an emotive cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Her father recently received two posthumous Grammy nominations for his album No One Sings Like You Anymore Vol.1 which was nominated for best rock album and “Nothing Compares 2 U” for best rock performance.
Toni’s tender delivery of “Nothing Compares 2 U” was accompanied by a stripped-down ensemble comprised of an acoustic guitar, a bassist, a drummer and a small string section. The performance was gentle, steady and showcased the singer/songwriter’s ability to permeate the classic track with her own heartfelt pop-folk sensibilities.
Chris Cornell started covering “Nothing Compares 2 U” in 2015 during his solo tour. The following year he created No One Sings Like You Anymore, Vol. 1 which was comprised of covers of artists and bands who inspired him including John Lennon, Guns N’ Roses, Harry Nilsson and more. In 2018, Toni shared a duet version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” between her and her late father.
All proceeds from Chris and Toni’s duet of “Nothing Compares 2 U” go to the International Rescue Committee.
