The String Cheese Incident have released a new EP, Into the Blue. The collection of new music features four tracks, including a take on Peter Gabriel’s 1977 debut single, “Solsbury Hill.”

The band’s latest release is their first since 2017’s Believe. Into the Blue was penned in 2020 by multi-instrumentalist and String Cheese mainstay Michael Kang. The songs on the EP are Kang’s response to his mother’s diagnosis of an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer.

As opposed to letting fear drive the ship, Kang says he was inspired by his mother’s bravery and willingness to submit to nature’s currents. The result is a four-track EP comprised of three original tunes, “Hi Ho No Show,” “Dragonfly,” “Into the Blue,” and a cover of the Genesis frontman’s seminal track, “Solsbury Hill.”

Tight jams and advanced instrumental arrangements drive the EP. The String Cheese Incident’s high energy and electricity dominates “Hi Ho No Show” and “Into the Blue.” While “Dragonfly” carries with it a distinct level of sweetness and intimacy that is reminiscent of R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe’s take on Richard Chamberland’s 1963 single, “All I Have To Do Is Dream.”

Following their latest release The String Cheese Incident will kick off their 2022 touring season with a set of rescheduled dates originally slated for August 2021. The first tour date will land on April 21 and see the band perform at Ting Pavilion in Charlottesville, Va. After that, they’ll remain in the Southern region of the U.S. for a string of concerts that will run through the first of May. See the band’s complete tour schedule below.
