Last night, My Morning Jacket closed up their One Big Holiday destination event at the Moon Palace in Cancún, Mexico with an encore featuring special guests Eric D. Johnson of The Fruit Bats and Sharon Van Etten.

They kicked off their set with fan-favorite “Wordless Chorus” from their album Z. They continued with “Circuital” and “Evil Urges” both title tracks from their respective 2011 and 2008 projects. Next came “Feel You,” “What A Wonderful Man” and “In Color.” Frontman Jim James recently performed a solo rendition of “In Color” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Next, the band played the first cover of the evening, Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology),” which was followed by two songs off their debut album Tennessee Fire, “If All Else Fails” and “The Dark.”

My Morning Jacket continued with tracks from all across their discography including “Spring (Among the Living),” “Knot Comes Loose” and “The Way That He Sings.” To viewers’ delight, James performed a solo and acoustic rendition of “Bermuda Highway” of their 2001’s LP At Dawn which led to their debut cover of the final song on side two of the Beatles’ beloved white album, “Julia.” Band members Tom Blankenship, Patrick Hallahan, Carl Broemel and Bo Koster rejoined James on stage for “War Begun” and “Off The Record” then “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2” into a bust out of “Cobra.” They hadn’t played “Cobra” in exactly three years at 2018’s One Big Holiday event. They closed the set with “Wasted” from The Waterfall II.

My Morning Jacket returned to the stage with The Fruit Bats’ Johnson in tow. He assisted My Morning Jacket with their debut cover of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ “Breakdown.” During the song, Johnson traded vocals with James and took part in a three-man jam with James and Broemel. After Johnson left the stage the band welcomed Sharon Van Etten on stage to perform the iconic anthem for peace “What The World Needs Now Is Love.” They closed the event–which is now tradition–with the song to which the festival owes its name, “One Big Holiday.”
