Tank and the Bangas have announced they’ll release their third studio album, Red Balloon, on May 13. The LP was born out of a break from the group’s rigorous touring schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic and features unique observations on Black life in America and society’s ills.

“This has been one of the best attempts thus far at capturing what happens when we’re all playing at the same time,” noted the band in a press release. “Red Balloon is coming straight for your heart and your neck. It’s going to make you bop and think and love, hopefully, and even love people that look different.”

Red Balloon was produced predominantly by Tank and the Bangas and recorded at Bangaville Studios in New Orleans and Revival Studios in Los Angeles. The 16-track LP also includes contributions from Questlove, Big Freedia, Jacob Collier, Trombone Shorty, Masego, Wayne Brady and more.

In conjunction with the album announcement, the band shared their newest single, “No ID,” alongside an accompanying video. Tank and the Bangas will set out on an extensive run of 2022 tour dates with Freedia, Trombone Shorty and Cory Henry starting on March 9. They make stops at the Hollywood Bowl, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, DC’s 9:30 Club and Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl, and New York’s Webster Hall, Blue Note and Central Park Summerstage
