The funk nonet Turkuaz have released their first single of 2021, the funky, fright-filled track titled, “Shakin’ In My Sheets.” The track was released just days prior to their Halloween run at Webster Hall. Turkuaz is back on the road and are scheduled to tour through May 2022.

Of the track frontman, Dave Brandwein said, “We have a ton of material in the works! Eventually, we’ll have a new full-length, but it felt appropriate to release this song right now with its lyrical relevance to Halloween. Plus, it’s been in the works since before the pandemic! We started working on it soon after our 2018 album Life in the City.”

Brandwein continued, “It’s odd that it was written before all the recent events of the world because, in retrospect, it just seems so relevant. The song picks up where we left off with some of the themes from our last album, describing feelings of alienation, discomfort and depression setting in as each day passes.”

Brandwein composed the song when he was struggling with addiction and sobriety, which he said was as isolating as COVID was. He reflected further, “Searching for answers, I turned to songwriting, and though my struggles continue, I’m emerging from the pandemic sober and look back at this time as a learning experience and I’m glad that Turkuaz was able to make beautiful music out of it!”

Turkuaz will be ringing in the new year with their annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop event in Hartford, Conn. for two nights at Infinity Hall. Find tickets here.
