On Sept. 18, Pearl Jam played their first show since the start of the pandemic at Asbury Park’s Sea.Hear.Now Festival.

The band served up the live debut of five tunes – “Quick Escape,” “Seven O’Clock,” “Never Destination,” “Superblood Wolfmoon,” “Take the Long Way” – all off their March 2020 LP Gigaton.

Other surprises included a nod to the late Charlie Watts, with “Wishlist” containing elements of The Rolling Stones’ “Waiting on a Friend.”

Danny Clinch – who runs the Sea.Hear.Now festival – added his harmonica to a mid-set “Red Mosquito” and Lenny Kaye – who was onsite playing with Patti Smith – joined in for the encore of “Rockin’ In The Free World.”

Naturally, the band also tipped their hat to Asbury Park legend Bruce Springsteen by starting their encore off with “My City of Ruins.”

“It’s great to be back,” Pearl Jam wrote after the gig. “Thank you, Asbury Park.”
