Dave Matthews Band played their first show since the start of the pandemic at the Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek in Raleigh, N.C., last night, July 23. The show was broadcast live on SiriusXM Channel 30 (Dave Matthews Band Radio).
Dave Matthews Band opened with “41” a slow open track that builds upon itself to exhibit all the moving parts that make up the band. They then played break-out tracks, “Granny,” then “Grey Street” with its third verse for the first time since 2002. They also debuted their new song “Walk Around the Moon” for the first time live. “If we mess it up, you won’t know it!” Matthews joked before beginning the song. Dave Matthews Band closed the set with “Stay (Wasting My Time).”
The band returned a five-song encore which began with a solo performance and live debut of “Singing From The Windows” from Matthews. They then “Pantala Naga Pampa,” “Rapunzel,” and “Kill the Preacher.” They closed the night completely with “Why I Am.”
Dave Matthews Band is partnered with the non-profit environmental organization REVERB, which assists in calculating the carbon footprint in relation to fan travel to shows, and helping bands neutralize these emissions by supporting carbon reduction projects.
