Trey Anastasio hosted his second Rubber Jungle LIVE performance on Friday Night. Like his previous installment in May, Friday’s Rubber Jungle show was recorded at the guitarist’s apartment in New York and broadcast on SiriusXM’s Phish Radio. However, this time pianist Jeff Tanski joined Anastasio for his entire set. (Tanski began working with Anastasio on the Hands on Hands on a Hard Body musical and has since gone on to assist Phish on special performances like their New Year’s Eve gags and the Baker’s Dozen run; he also joined Anastasio throughout most of his Beacon Jams residency this past fall.)

Friday’s set kicked off with a version of “Lonely Trip,” the title track from Anastasio’s 2020 quarantine release, that segued into “Sand,” which was dedicated to the song’s co-author Tony Markellis, who passed away in April. From there, Anastasio and Tanski offered the acoustic debut of the Junta story song “Esther,” which the guitarist has not played live in any capacity since Phish’s July 30, 2017 stop at New York’s Madison Square Garden. After a solo jam that included a “Welcome to the Jungle” quote, Anastasio resumed his presentation with Tanski, moving from the Phish-adopted solo cut “Frost” to the Phish favorite “Stash” and two most multi-part compositions, “Pebbles and Marbles” and “Reba.” During the latter tune, Anastasio also changed the “sell it to butcher in the store” lyric to reference his cat Joey. ” A Life Beyond The Dream,” from Anastasio’s Ghosts of the Forest project, closed out the set.

Anastasio will play in front of a live audience for the first time since early 2020 this weekend when he headlines three shows at Saratoga Springs, NY’s Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
