For the newest edition of the GarciaLive series, Deadheads can feast their ears on the Jerry Garcia Band’s historic 11/15/91 outing at the legendary Madison Square Garden.
“GarciaLive Volume 16 finds the world’s most recorded musician in the world’s most famous arena at the midway point in one of his longest and most celebrated solo tours,” reads an official description. “While Garcia was no stranger to Madison Square Garden, November 15th marked the Jerry Garcia Band’s debut in the vaulted venue. Though just two months removed from the Grateful Dead’s sold-out 9-night residency at the Garden, the crowd’s eruption as the houselights dimmed revealed the immense excitement for Garcia’s return. The buoyant set-opening “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” signaled the feeling was indeed mutual.”
The physical copy features detailed liner notes written by Relix editor-in-chief and Jambands.com founder Dean Budnick, which includes reflections from Melvin Seals, Jacklyn LaBranch, Dennis McNally and John Popper. Popper’s band, Blues Traveler, was the opening act for the 1991 show.
GarciaLive Vol. 16 is set for a June 25 release.

May 6, 2021 at 7:00 amVaulted venue…arched roof. MSG has an arched roof. It really was incredible that jgb could fill hockey arenas w. 10000 plus people.

May 5, 2021 at 9:04 pmThey oughta release the Albany show where Gar’s guitar audio crapped out…TWICE lol…1st time i recall tech tryna fix it on the fly, didnt work, prompting a sheepish Garcia to stop the band & advised us all to ‘speak among urselves for a minute’- which resulted in a nice headline in the paper: GARBO SPEAKS!

May 5, 2021 at 6:19 pmThat’s funny, I was on the LIR that night from Hempstead (Hofstra) heading to see Red Hot Chili Peppers at Roseland with Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins opening and remember asking all the hippies on the train where they were going. Just another night in NYC.

May 5, 2021 at 5:27 pmThis is a great show. I was there. I sure wish they’d also release the 1993 MSG JGB show – better, plus the only time saxophonist David Murray guested w/Jerry that Jerry was actually present – the other times David guested w/the GD Jerry was in a drug induced haze unfortunately.

May 5, 2021 at 5:26 pmI was at the show, it was awesome. Even blues traveler opener sounded good. If they call it vaulted it’s because msg is literally not on the ground floor and held up in some weird architectural way

May 5, 2021 at 6:32 pmThere are fewer and fewer of us oldsters everyday. Many just do not want to do reviews also. Trixie? Better things to do? After all she gets a piece of each CD sold I assume. Other then added color as to time of when the show was recorded and what was going on, I let the music speak for itself.

May 5, 2021 at 3:20 pmIt does work to describe MSG as a “vaulted venue”, but I think the writer was looked for “vaunted”. Other out-of-work editors want to weigh in?

May 5, 2021 at 5:36 pmPerhaps what they were really going for was “exalted”?
