On Dec. 11, Goose performed their annual ‘Goosemas’ show, which this year took the form of a livestream from Rockefeller Center in New York City. The show was broadcast live on The Relix Channel on Twitch.
The five members of Goose – guitarist/vocalist Rick Mitarotonda, keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Peter Anspach, bassist Trevor Weekz, drummer Ben Atkind and percussionist Jeff Arevalo – wore matching jumpsuits, calling to mind both ’80s ski-wear and astronaut regalia.
Despite having over a month off since their last show (Nov. 7 at South Farms in Morris, Conn.), the band didn’t miss a beat, opening the show with a thoroughly jammed version of “Arcadia.” They then performed “Linus & Lucy” by the Vince Guaraldi Trio from the Peanuts, which they performed at last year’s Goosemas show. Next came a slow, funked out version of “Madhuvan,” followed by “Turned Clouds” and the relatively new “Earthling Or Alien?.” Next came the second cover of the evening, Goose’s debut of Pat Benetar’s “Love is a Battlefield.” The set closed with two more originals “Slow Ready” and “Elmeg the Wise.”
During set break, the Twitch stream aired some behind-the-scenes footage of the band rehearsing and setting up the show. The band then returned the stage and played the novel “Seekers on the Ridge” suite, which was debuted at their postponed, Donnie Darko themed Halloween show. Next came “All I Need,” followed by “The Empress of Organos.”
Mitarotonda then delivered some tasty licks as he led the band into “Hot Tea.” The fan-favorite segued into another debut cover, Radiohead’s “You and Whose Army?,” before segueing back into “Hot Tea.” The show closed with a triumphant cover of Jackie Wilson’s “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher.”
The opening “Arcadia” was previewed on the Relix YouTube channel. Check it out below, as well as the full setlist!
