Today – Sunday, April 5 – Steve Earle will present a special livestream, honoring the 10th anniversary of West Virginia’s Upper Big Branch Coal Mine Explosion, which killed 29 men and is known as one of the worst mining disasters in history.

According to a press release, “Earle’s live stream performance will feature the songs he wrote for and performed in Coal Country, a new play with music based on the disaster written by Jessica Blank and Erik Jenson and directed by Jessica Blank. Opening on March 3rd to critical acclaim at The Public Theater in New York City, the production was postponed after two weeks due to COVID-19.”

The songs will also be featured on Earle’s forthcoming album Ghosts of West Virginia, out May 22.

The stream is set to begin at 3 p.m. ET (with a special tribute video at 2 p.m. ET) on Earle’s official Facebook as well as SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country channel.
