Just after they unveiled a slate of Spring tour dates this morning, The Disco Biscuits have announced that they will have to reschedule the final four shows of their Winter Tour. Unfortunately, the rescheduling is due to Marc Brownstein needing emergency eye surgery to treat a detached retina.

The band will be rescheduling their Jan. 15 show at The Ritz in Raleigh, N.C., their Jan. 16 performance at The Fillmore Charlotte in Charlotte and their two-night run at The Fillmore Silver Spring in Silver Spring, Md. The band has also announced that tickets to these shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates, which have not yet been set. In a statement, Brownstein also assured fans that he would be able to play in the just-announced Spring Tour shows.

“With preparations underway for this week’s shows throughout the Southeast, an unexpected emergency struck close to home – Marc has been diagnosed with a detached retina and will undergo emergency surgery tomorrow morning to save his vision,” the band wrote in a statement. “As such, and only after great consideration of all options, unfortunately this week’s shows in Raleigh, Charlotte and Silver Spring will be rescheduled,” the statement continued. “We thank you for your patience and understanding — and ask that you send your best wishes to Marc, as we know you will.”

In his lengthy Twitter post, Brownstein said he began experiencing the symptoms during JamCruise. He also shared some thoughts on the decision to undergo surgery and to reschedule the shows.

“I feel awful that we had to postpone shows – that is never easy, especially with a fan base that travels from all over the country,” the bassist wrote. “But the doctor said this: ‘You are young and we need to be thinking about the long term future with this and not worry about the short term.’ And I agree with that. There will always be more shows. I only have two eyes and I want them both to work.”

“One thing I can tell you is that I will be at all of the shows that announced today, and there will be touchdowns. Many of them,” Brownstein continued. “Thanks for all the well-wishes that I’ve already received… I love you guys more than words could describe and I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by such loving friends, family and fans. I will talk to you on the other side.”
