Bluegrass fans escaped the impending winter and enjoyed the sun and surf at this weekend’s Strings & Sol, taking in a number of collaborations including a standout, guest-filled Leftover Salmon set on Dec. 13.

Leftover Salmon also used the Mexico event as a chance to debut two new songs “Waterfront” (arriving midway through their first half) and “Run Red Fox Run” (to kick off set two).

Additionally, after a nice “Playin’ In The Band”> “Dead Flowers” segment, bluegrass legend/first-time Strings & Sol performer Del McCoury joined in on the fun along with his son and bandmate Ronnie McCoury.

The McCourys joined in on Salmon original “Midnight Blues” as well as the Bill Monroe classic “I’m Blue, I’m Lonesome.”

The evening was capped off with some extra brass from artists-at-large Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman joining in on “Here Comes The Night,” “Better” and the very-appropriate show-closer “Gulf of Mexico.”
