At their annual Hulaween gathering, The String Cheese Incident played their highly-anticipated ’90s costume set on Saturday night, busting out covers of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alanis Morissette and more, as well as the first version of Phish’s “The Wedge” since Halloween 2000.
After two sets of originals featuring newer SoundLab singles like “Manga” and “All We Got” as well as old favorites like “Miss Brown’s Teahouse” and “Restless Wind,” SCI were ready to go back in time to the ’90s.
The band opened their costume set with a rocking version of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Give It Away” and made their way through versions of “Santeria” by Sublime and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. That final tune bled into “Loser” by Beck and transitioned into “One Hand In My Pocket” by Alanis Morissette before finally settling into the the aforementioned Phish bust-out.
From there, SCI slowed things down a bit and got grungy with Radiohead’s “Creep” and Pearl Jam’s “Even Flow” before welcoming vocalists Rhonda Thomas and Tony White for the rest of the set. (Thomas and White also joins SCI the evening prior.)
With the duo of singers in tow, SCI jumped into “Waterfalls” by TLC, followed by other hip-hop hits of the decade like “No Diggity,” “California Love,” “This Is How We Go It,” “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” and “You Can’t Touch This.”
SCI closed their costume set with a certified dance party, grooving along to the Dee-Lite classic “Groove is in the Heart.”

October 28, 2019 at 4:31 pmJust got back, it was a siicck set, those dudes from Colorado really throw down, the phish song was awsome, to see the phish heads flip out and dance was like a group of people hearing the same thing on their headphones at a silent disco show, we knew who we were. Now it’s time for the phish family to return the compliment and throw down a Cheeesy song in one of their sets. Love from Hulla, and Tim, please hug someone.
