John Mayer continued his summer tour dates in the Midwest this weekend, including a show at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena that featured a nod to the late Jerry Garcia, whose 77th birthday would have fallen the day before, during the encore.

Along with Mayer staples like “Love on the Weekend, “No Such Thing,” “Neon,” “Your Body is a Wonderland,” “Waiting on the World to Change” and Gravity,” Friday’s two-set affair included a cover of Beyoncé’s “XO” during the acoustic segment that Mayer has been using to open up his second sets this tour, plus covers of Prince’s “The Beautiful Ones” and Pete Townshend’s solo hit “Let My Love Open the Door.”

For the encore, Mayer emerged and led his band on a slower, heartfelt rendition of the Grateful Dead’s “Friend of the Devil,” a tour debut for the guitarist. As the harmony-filled cover wrapped up, the screen behind the band projected a classic picture of Garcia.

See the full setlist below, along with fan-shot video of the Dead cover. Next up for Mayer is a show tonight in St. Paul, MN.
