Wilco returned to MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA, this weekend to once again host their Solid Sound festival, which kicked off on Friday evening with a set from the group featuring a fan-karaoke segment, as well as a sit in from fellow festival act Courtney Barnett.
Following Friday sets from Barnett, Tortoise and more, Wilco took the stage and offered a quick set by themselves, featuring staples like “Random Name Generator,” “Hummingbird” and “Misunderstood,” before welcoming a string of fans to take the stage with them for a 13-song karaoke set. The fan collaboration, in true karaoke fashion, featured lyrics scrolling on the screen behind the band, as the show ran through favorites like “Heavy Metal Drummer,” “I’m the Man Who Loves You,” “Wishful Thinking” and more before wrapping up with “Handshake Drugs” featuring Barnett on vocals. The Australian rocker also took some time at the end of the tune to jam with guitarist Nels Cline, as the two musicians synced up for a raucous set-closing segment.
Watch fan-shot footage of the Barnett collaboration below, along with the full karaoke setlist. Solid Sound wraps up today with sets from Jeff Tweedy & Friends and many more.

July 1, 2019 at 12:35 amMaybe I don’t get it but I’d be bummed if I went to this and had to listen to karaoke. I love Wilco and the idea of this I suppose, it realistically don’t seem like it would work. Id be curious to hear what people there had to say.

July 1, 2019 at 1:56 pmYou’re 100% right. I was there and, unlike most, only had a pass for Friday night rather than the whole weekend pass. So after a long drive and lodging arrangements to see Wilco I saw over an hour of amateur karaoke. Barnett is amazing and their collab on Handshake Drugs was great but honestly I was pretty disinterested in the show by that point. Missed out on Saturday night’s full set featuring two new songs and other gems. Live and learn I guess.
