Australian psych-rockers King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard will continue their impressively prolific musical output with their 15th album in the past seven years, Infest the Rats’ Nest, set for release Aug. 16 via ATO/Flightless Records.

Following up their previous effort, Fishing for Fishies, which was just released back in April, the new King Gizzard LP promises to dive deeper into the band’s hard-rock influences—a press release described Rats’ Nest as “a sonic blast of furious thrash metal” and the band’s “hardest and heaviest album to date.”

“In fourth grade there was an older kid who was into Rammstein,” begins lead vocalist Stu Mackenzie. “I made friends with him and we put together a performance at our school assembly where we headbanged to ‘Du Hast.’ I got whiplash, which I thought was pretty cool. That was my introduction to heavy metal, and soon Rammstein led to Metallica, Metallica led to Slayer, Slayer led to Kreator and Sodom. The German bands really kicked my ass and scared the hell out of me too. Later on, when I picked up a guitar I realized that shit was too hard to play, so I got into rock ‘n’ roll and garage. That was liberating.”

King Gizzard have already released two singles and videos from the record, “Self-Immolate” and “Planet B.” Watch below.

Pre-orders for Infest the Rats’ Nest will be available via ATO beginning July 9. King Gizzard will head out on the road for a batch of North American tour dates starting in California in August. Check out their full schedule here.
