On Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27, as part of a Jazz Fest celebration, The Disco Biscuits welcomed Lettuce trumpeter Benny Bloom, debuted a new original, busted out “Afro Blue” for the first time since 2004 and offered a nice Pink Floyd tribute for a crowd gathered at the newly built Fillmore theater.

After lacing their first set on Friday with “Triumph,” the band invited Bloom – a NOLA resident – for their first take on “Afro Blue” since Jan. 12, 2004.

The Disco Biscuits kicked off set two with a new, instrumental number called “That Sample Has a Name,” which was written by guitarist Jon “The Barber” Gutwillig.

Later, the band closed out their first night in NOLA with a nice “Helicopters”> “Munchkin Invasion (inverted)”> “Helicopters” segment and a “Frog Legs” encore.

Saturday’s show, on the other hand, had no guests or bust outs, but fans were thrilled by a set one book-ended by “The Overture” and a similarly formatted set two, with Pink Floyd’s “Run Like Hell” used as a launch point and, eventually, a landing pad for a number of tunes including a “Mr. Don” encore.
