Kam Franklin, lead singer for Houston-based soul and R&B outfit The Suffers has been announced as the latest addition to the Board of Directors fo voter-registration and community participation nonprofit HeadCount.

Franklin, who was a part of HeadCount’s The Future is Voting tour last year with My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, will join a Board that features fellow musicians like the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir, The Disco Biscuits’ Marc Brownstein and Cake’s John McCrea.

“I’m very pleased to be joining the HeadCount board,” says Franklin. “I look forward to working alongside some of the most knowledgeable individuals in the music industry to further the HeadCount mission of promoting participation in democracy.”

“Kam is an awesome addition to the HeadCount family,” says Brownstein, one of HeadCount’s co-founders. “HeadCount is about making sure everyone’s voice is heard. And Kam has quite the voice to be heard.”
