After a sold-out Friday night gig at the intimate Brooklyn Bowl, moe. moved over to Manhattan’s famed Beacon Theatre on Saturday, performing two full sets, debuting a new original and even jamming with old pal John Popper of Blues Traveler.

moe. didn’t keep their surprises secret for too long, opening with “Waiting For The Punch Line,” and a new tune by bassist Rob Derhak dubbed “Along For The Ride.” (Clearly, the band has been on a writing tear; earlier this month in Maine, they debuted three additional new tunes.)

Later in the set, Popper joined the party. The Blues Traveler frontman added his harmonica to a set-closing performance of moe.’s “New York City” as well as a pairing of “Blue Jeans Pizza”> “Moth.”

After playing “Timmy Tucker” and their second-ever version of “Dangerous Game,” moe. got deeper into the jams for set two. A winding version of “McBain” segued in and out of “George,” and the band continued those exploratory vibes with a “Montego”> “Time Ed” segment. Eventually, “George” emerged once again to close out the set.

moe. encored their Beacon Theatre gig with “Spine of a Dog.”
