Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe have confirmed the release of their upcoming album, Gnomes & Badgers, on March 8 via Seven Spheres Records, marking the group’s first new effort in five years.

Along with singer/saxophonist Denson and the members of KDTU—guitarist DJ Williams, lap steel player Seth Freeman, trumpeter Chris Littlefield, organist David Veith, bassist Chris Stillwell and drummer Zak Najor, Gnomes & Badgers also features guest musicians like keyboardist Chuck Leavell, Lukas Nelson, Anders Osborne, Ivan Neville and multi-instrumentalist Adrian Quesada.

“As a writer and a human being, I’m affected by what goes on around me,” Denson says of the album’s origins. “I’ve always been interested in politics, and what I’m seeing now just disturbs me. I saw this idea of Gnomes & Badgers—which are the different people in the world, the different parties on the left and the right—as a great way to frame the political debate and the debate about listening to each other. Somebody needs to say something, and hopefully I can say it in a way that will make people reconsider how they think about things.”

Denson and company have shared the first single from the album, “I’m Your Biggest Fan,” which can be heard below. KDTU have a few dates lined up for the rest of this month (they play tonight in Wilmington, NC) and into the spring, including a few gigs in New Orleans during Jazz Fest.
