After welcoming Sam Bush and Darol Anger on Friday night, The String Cheese Incident returned to 1stBank Center in Broomfield, CO, on Saturday to continue their New Year’s Eve run at the venue, offering another guest-filled performance that featured lap steel virtuoso Robert Randolph and members of New Orleans collective Dumpstaphunk.

The sit ins began near the end of the first set, when the Dumpstaphunk trio of keyboardist Ivan Neville, guitarist Ian Neville and bassist Tony Hall joined SCI for “Get To You,” a single the band just released earlier this year. The guest musicians then stuck around for a set-closing run of “Congo Square,” a Sonny Landreth tune that was also played by Ivan and Ian’s fathers (Aaron and Art, respectively) in the Neville Brothers. It was the first time SCI had played the song since 2000.

Set number two kept the guest spots coming, kicking off with SCI’s debut cover of Robert Randolph’s “Got Soul” featuring Randolph himself. The lap steel guitarist also stayed on stage for a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child,” SCI’s first run of the cut in over two years (7/22/16). After String Cheese closed out the second set by themselves, they opted to round out the performance with an encore featuring all the guests from the night on an SCI debut of Funkadelic’s “Red Hot Mama.”
