The welcome return of a slow “Llama” gave fans a good indication of how Phish’s second night in Hampton would precede. Following a 20-plus minute “Fuego”> “Runaway Jim” segment, the band offered up an unusually early-placed “Bug” and, later, an equally unexpected “Tela.”
The first half closed with a rocking “Fluffhead.”
Set two was equally raucous, kicking off with a four-part jam that began with “First Tube” and made its way into a fiery “Tweezer.” Phish then slowed things down with “Dirt” and the following “Backwards Down the Number Line.”
As the first repeat of fall tour, “No Men in No Man’s Land” bled into an ambient section with a drum solo by Jon Fishman. A sing-a-long of “Cavern” and “Gotta Jibboo” kept the crowd moving, and Phish ended the second set strong with “The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony”> “Suzy Greenberg.”
Phish encored their second night with Rolling Stones standby “Shine A Light,” subverting expectations and presumably saving “Tweezer Reprise” for Sunday night.
