On Friday night, The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, hosted a special One Night Only collaboration featuring a quartet of guitarist Warren Haynes, bassist George Porter Jr., keyboardist John Medeski and drummer Joe Russo—along with sit ins from saxophonist Skerik. The night was also a benefit for Debra of America, an NYC-based non-profit that helps fund research on the condition dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa.

The show featured two sets music from the all-star collaboration, including several covers, with Skerik making several appearances throughout the performance. The night opened with an improvised jam that led into Junior Walker’s “(I’m a) Road Runner,” followed by the Allen Toussaint-penned Three Dog Night hit “Brickyard Blues” and two instrumental tunes. Porter Jr. then lead the way on an extended take on The Meters’ “It Ain’t No Use,” before the sent rounded out with Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind” and James Brown’s “Talking Loud and Saying Nothing.”

The cover-heavy evening continued in set two, kicking off with Bob Dylan’s “Tough Mama” and “Hottentot” from John Scofield, a musician who has been known to collaborate with Haynes and Medeski’s own band’s. Next up was a cover of Little Feat’s “Sailin’ Shoes,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe” and Jeff Beck’s “Freeway Jam.” Haynes then dipped into his Gov’t Mule catalog for “Rocking Horse,” before the group closed out the set with Dr. John’s “I Walk On Guilded Splinters.” The night’s encore started with Haynes’ Allman Brothers Band tune “Soulshine” and wrapped up the show with a cover of Nappy Brown’s rhythm and blues classic “Night Time is the Right Time.”
