Joe Russo’s Almost Dead returned to the Brooklyn Bowl stage last night for the fifth of six shows at the venue and welcomed back guitarist John Mayer for several songs throughout the night.

Mayer, who is well-versed in the Grateful Dead catalog with his continuing work in Dead & Company, first sat in with Russo and company last year during their Brooklyn Bowl run, and while that was mostly impromptu, last night’s collaboration was more of a planned event.

After Almost Dead kicked off the show with “Greatest Story Ever Told” plus Dead classics like “Candyman” and “Loser,” Mayer first emerged to help close out the first set with “Althea,” the tune which he has said initially got him interested in the Dead.

Mayer then came out with the band for the beginning of set two, sticking around for “Here Comes Sunshine” and “New Minglewood Blues.” After the band closed out the set with “Lazy Lightning,” “China Doll” and “I Know You Rider,” Mayer once again returned for the two-song encore, starting with a cover of Dr. John’s “Such a Night” and rounding out with “Franklin’s Tower.”

See the full setlist below and watch video highlights of Mayer’s sit in above and below. Almost Dead will wrap up their six-night stay at Brooklyn Bowl tonight.
