Hank Sullivant will rejoin MGMT on tour this month. He will augment MGMT singer/guitarist Andrew VanWyngarden, who recently underwent shoulder surgery and will be unable to play guitar at MGMT’s upcoming shows.

A note from the band reads:

Due to a recent injury, Andrew had to undergo surgery on his left shoulder. Don’t worry though, the show will go on! MGMT will be performing at ALL scheduled shows! BUT since Andrew’s shoulder may not be healed enough to play guitar, our good friend of Kuroma will be taking over his parts and Andrew will just be singing. That’s all for now, stay tuned for more updates later this month about the new MGMT album.

Sullivant and VanWyngarden performed together in the Memphis, TN jamband Accidental Mersh as high school students. In college, he co-founded Athens, GA band The Whigs and served as a touring member of MGMT in 2007 and 2008. He currently leads the psych band Kuroma, whose new album is being produced by MGMT’s Ben Goldwasser.
