Gibson Guitars has announced a new addition to their signature line of guitars, the Derek Trucks SG. Unlike bandmate Warren Haynes’ Custom Shop Les Paul, the Derek Trucks SG will be a standard production model. The guitar is based on Trucks’ own modified ’61 SG, and includes a number of premium features. In addition to standard ’61 SG Reissue features such as ’57 Classic pickups and a slim “true-D” profile neck, the Derek Trucks models features unique upgrades in the form of a Corian nut, 500k potentiometers for volume and tone, and an early style “no wire” Tune-o-matic bridge in place of a Lyre vibrato bridge (retaining the Lyre tailpiece). The modifications give the guitar a better physical balance, relieving the traditional neck-heavy tendencies of the SG, as well as producing the wide-open tone typical of Trucks’ sound. The guitar is currently available for pre-order at all authorized Gibson Guitars retailers.
