The String Cheese Incident keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth sat in with Los Angeles-based jamband Taper’s Choice on Wednesday night. The “night zero” concert took place at Boulder, CO’s Fox Theatre the evening before Phish kicked off their high-profile three-night run at the nearby Folsom Field football stadium.
The keyboardist, who lives in the area, emerged partway through the set for the Taper’s Choice original “Darkness on the Edge of Midtown.” Hollingsworth then remained on stage to help lead the evening’s headliners through The String Cheese Incident original “Elijah,” which appears on the Colorado jamband’s 2003 album Untying the Not, and a cover of Traffic’s “Empty Pages.”
According to Friends of Cheese, The String Cheese Incident has only performed “Elijah” four times–three times in 2003 and 2004 and once in late 2021. Hollingsworth has shared the stage with Traffic’s Steve Winwood on several occasions, including at the first Bonnaroo in 2002, which Taper’s Choice/Vampire Weekend drummer Chris Tomson, an old-school SCI fan, attended. Hollingsworth also recently checked out Vampire Weekend in Colorado and documented his time at the show on social media.
In addition to shows with String Cheese, Hollingsworth will perform at Winter Park, CO’s Rendezvous Event Center on July 26. He will also kick off a run of solo dates with his Kyle’s Brew Fest at Longmont, CO’s Wibby Brewing on September 6. The gig will serve as an album-release party for his forthcoming LP, All We Are.
